Vision Industries to Commercialize Tyrano Fuel Cell Truck

Hydrogen vehicle critics, naysayers and deniers won’t like this story a bit. In the past couple of years while electric autos have taken the spotlight center stage, hydrogen vehicle manufacturers have been quietly commercializing their vehicles.

The first commercial hydrogen vehicles to be sold a couple of years back were hydrogen fuel cell forklifts and palette trucks. Now there is another type of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle on the brink of commercialization. Vision Industries Corporation has just received a letter of intent (LOI) from Transportation Services, Inc. (TTSI) of Rancho Dominguez, California to purchase 100 Tyrano fuel cell class-8 big rig trucks.

The100 Tyrano trucks are priced at $270,000 each for a total of $27 million. The contract is contingent upon a test truck performing as expected.

According to, “To jumpstart the LOI, TTSI will take delivery of the first Vision Tyrano™ zero emission truck for testing in commercial revenue service. The initial truck will perform typical drayage operations, hauling freight containers from port terminals in the Ports of Los Angles and Long Beach to rail yards and other distribution facilities.”

If all goes well, the letter of intent leaves open the possibility of Transportation Services, Inc. purchasing another 300 Tyrano trucks. This would bring the total for the 400 class-8 trucks to $108 million.

Look, I’ve been talking about and their Tyrano truck for the past couple of years. I’ve checked out the vehicle myself in Long Beach, California. This is an idea whose time has come. The Indians are circling the wagons, so to speak. It’s only a matter of time before hydrogen autos become one of the last type of vehicle to enjoy widespread commercialization.
