California to Build 100 Hydrogen Fueling Stations by 2024

On June 13, 2013 I had talked about how California was getting seven new public hydrogen fueling stations. Well, the news today is way better.

The California Senate and Assembly came together in a bipartisan manner to approve Assembly Bill 8 (AB8) that would extend clean fuel, vehicle and air quality programs. It would also pave the way for new public hydrogen fueling stations for California.

According to , “By extending the programs through 2023, AB 8 would provide more than $2 billion in clean air and transportation funding in California. The bills also dedicate funding, in lieu of regulatory action, to construct the minimum fueling infrastructure necessary to support the impending introduction of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.”

But, wait, there’s more.

California states, “The commission shall allocate twenty million dollars ($20,000,000) annually to fund the number of stations identified pursuant to subdivision (d), not to exceed 20 percent of the moneys appropriated by the Legislature from the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Fund, established pursuant to Section 44273, until there are at least 100 publicly available hydrogen-fueling stations in operation in California.”

California Governor Jerry Brown is expected to sign the bill.

    Hi Kevin,

Great article. I’m showing your feeds on my website and helping crank up interest for alternative energy – including hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. People don’t realize, but even putting climate change aside fossil fuels are finite and most will be depleted by mid this century.

Keep up the good work on the hydrogen alternative.

    Cheers
