Last week I had talked about Hyundai and Hydrogenics ramping up the Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway Partnership (SHHP). This week I have received an email from the Zero Emission Resource Organisation asking if anyone would like to lease their Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen Car.
Here is the email:
Hello to all of you.
Let me give you a brief background: In Norway there are 4 hydrogen fuel stations, and a couple more will be built in 2011. Currently there are about 20 autos, all of them are ICEs with hydrogen at 350 bars. This Mazda is one of them, and most autos are so far acquired through the HyNor umbrella project.
Throughout 2011 some FCEV will arrive: 10 Mercedes-Benz B-class autos, and 5 rebuilt THINK City autos (by the Danish company H2 Logic). Recently, as you might have read, HyNor representatives together with Scandinavian colleagues in the Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway Partnership (SHHP) went to Korea and signed an MoU with Hyundai about delivery of future FCEV vehicles.
Right now, though, we have this Mazda on our hands, that was previously leased to Statoil in Norway, and now we (ZERO) is using it. The monthly cost of this is a whopping 25 000 NOK (3200 €), but we might be able to reduce the actual lease cost through our project funding. You will also need 350 bar hydrogen filling.
However, this project funding is meant to promote H2 autos in Norway. Leasing it to other countries may create some additional issues, but it might be possible.
See more pictures at and note the licence information.
Let me know if, when and for how long leasing would be interesting.
