Hyundai Intrado Fuel Cell Concept Teaser

Before the most recent Los Angeles Auto Show in November and December, Hyundai teased us with a new fuel cell concept vehicle. Well, the teasing continues as Hyudai has partially revealed its Intrado concept (pictured above), well ahead of when and where it will be officially unveiled. At the March 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Hyundai Intrado will be, uh, ta-da unveiled and unmasked for all to see.

According to the press release, “Intrado is built around a super-lightweight structure made from a mixture of advanced materials and joined using a revolutionary technique that has the potential to change the way autos are constructed in the future. The auto also features a next-generation hydrogen fuel cell drivetrain that is both smaller and lighter than that powering the assembly-line-produced Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell.

“Intrado will be the first Hyundai concept auto to feature styling inspired by Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, the latest iteration of Hyundai’s design language. The result of close collaboration between Hyundai Motor’s design and engineering teams, Intrado was styled and engineered primarily at Hyundai Motor European R&D centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany – as indicated by its codename, HED-9 (Hyundai Europe Design).”

Hyundai goes onto say that Intrado takes its name from the underside of an aircraft wing, causing lift (not to be confused with the telecommunications company by the same name). And the automaker wants to draw other comparisons between the Intrado and airplanes especially when it comes of use of advanced materials, the shedding of extra weight, the highly efficient powertrain.
